That means the Chrysler 300C Hollywood limousine comes face to face with the oddly similar <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/14/detroit-2008-maybach-landaulet-arrives-in-style/">Maybach Landaulet</a> with every revolution of its turnstile. Like the Landaulet, the 300C Hollywood also features a partially exposed cabin, but this time over the front seats rather than the rears. The fully-enclosed rear passenger cabin is accessed by two large suicide doors and features plenty of leg room thanks to its chassis stretch. There's also a repository for three bottles of Cristal (or whatever bottled spirits you prefer to imbibe) and two flutes in between the seats. Meanwhile, the driver is left to convene with Mother Nature and her elements up front where the interior luxe is decidedly lesser. <br /><br />In fact, the 300C Hollywood limo becomes much more interesting when you look at it through a socio-polical lens. It's clear where the Haves and the Have Nots are supposed to sit, with a nice partition in between them to keep the classes separated. OK, perhaps we should just pop open a bottle of Cristal and stop reading into it too much. <br /><br />There's no press release from Chrysler for this one, just a gallery of high-res pics below to browse.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: Chrysler 300C Hollywood limo</strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chrysler-300c-hollywood-limo/586355/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/0000hollywood_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chrysler-300c-hollywood-limo/586349/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/0001hollywood_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chrysler-300c-hollywood-limo/586354/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/0002hollywood_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chrysler-300c-hollywood-limo/586357/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/0003hollywood_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chrysler-300c-hollywood-limo/586350/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/0004hollywood_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-28501438019256691352008-04-02T18:41:00.048-07:002008-04-02T03:41:30.967-07:00Detroit 2008: Mercedes-Benz E320 BlueTec is only sort of 50-state legal<p><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/01/15/detroit-2008-mercedes-benz-e320-bluetec-is-only-sort-of-50-stat/#comments">Detroit 2008: Mercedes-Benz E320 BlueTec is only sort of 50-state legal</a><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" align="top" alt="" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/01/e320-bluetec-450.jpg" /><br /><br />Back in October, Mercedes-Benz <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/10/13/the-diesel-returns-to-california-this-week/">made something of a splash in California when they re-introduced the E320</a> to the California market. It was the first new diesel available in the state in over two years. However, it now appears that the E320 BlueTec is not actually technically legal in California or four other states that use the same emissions regulations. The current E320 BlueTec is not equipped with the urea injection system meaning it does not meet California regs. Mercedes received a waiver from CARB that would allow them to lease the cars in the state for two years. At the end of the lease, the cars cannot be re-sold in California or the other four states. When the ML, GL and R class BlueTec models go on sale late this year, they will have urea injection and be truly fifty-state legal and can be sold in California. The E-Class won't get urea injection until the next-generation model debuts in the next couple of years.<br /><br /><br /><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com">AutoblogGreen</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-25006982785935832412008-04-02T18:41:00.047-07:002008-04-02T03:41:29.574-07:00Detroit 2008: Lamborghini bringing personalization with Ad Personam program<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/10/lamborghini-bringing-personalization-to-naias/#comments">Detroit 2008: Lamborghini bringing personalization with Ad Personam program</a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lamborghini-personalization/573623/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/lambo_det_450-op.jpg" alt="" /></a><br /><em>Click the image above for more high-res pics of the Lamborghini Ad Personam program.</em><br /><br />What's more exclusive than a Lamborghini? So after offering the coupe, releasing a convertible and then making eleventeen bazillion different versions to suit every conceivable taste, it's fitted the 'Stang with a glass roof that blends the lines of the coupe with a little bit of open air lighting. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-mustang-glass-top/585972/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/mustang_glass_top_3_250-op.jpg" alt="" /></a>Granted, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/12/ford-helps-buyers-see-the-light-with-glass-roof-option-for-musta/">Glass Roof Mustang</a> is not particularly innovative, but we like the effect both inside and out. There's a clean line of darkness that begins at the top of the windshield and sweeps up and over the roof into the hatch. Inside, it's essentially an over-sized moonroof, but when facing ahead, you can't tell that it terminates right behind your head. If the blaring sun threatens to burn your bald spot, a retractable cloth sunscreen is fitted right over the rear seat passengers that's closed with a quick tug.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: Detroit 2008: Glass Roof Mustang - Live</strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-mustang-glass-top/585975/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/mustang_glass_top_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-mustang-glass-top/585976/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/mustang_glass_top_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-mustang-glass-top/585972/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/mustang_glass_top_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-mustang-glass-top/585973/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/mustang_glass_top_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-mustang-glass-top/585978/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/mustang_glass_top_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: Ford Mustang Glass Roof</strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-mustang-glass-roof/528122/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/12/mustangglassroof_02_hr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-mustang-glass-roof/528121/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/12/mustangglassroof_01_hr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-mustang-glass-roof/528120/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/12/mustangglassroof_03_hr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/15/detroit-2008-getting-intimate-with-the-glass-roof-mustang/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Detroit 2008: Getting intimate with the Glass Roof Mustang</em></a></p><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-70704369271740382302008-04-02T18:41:00.045-07:002008-04-02T03:41:26.922-07:00Detroit 2008: Geely FC makes an argument for Chinese cars<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/15/detroit-2008-geely-fc-makes-an-argument-for-chinese-cars/#comments">Detroit 2008: Geely FC makes an argument for Chinese cars</a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-geely-fc/586709/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/0000geelyfc_opt.jpg" /></a><br /><em>click above to view more images of the Geely FC</em><br /><br />Of all the Chinese automakers in attendance this year at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, Geely is the only one with cars we believe could actually be sold in the U.S. We have no idea if its new FC sedan, which debuted in China just five months ago, would pass strict U.S. safety and emissions standards, but its design, features and build quality seemed just up to snuff for an American consumer shopping for an inexpensive four-door sedan. <br /><br />The FC was developed in-house by Geely and features a 1.8L four-cylinder with variable valve timing producing 137 horsepower and mated to a five-speed manual. A 13-second trip to 62 mph isn't a world record, but it's just enough to keep up with traffic and return good fuel economy at the same time. There's also an available in-dash navigation system, dual airbags, and ABS brakes with electronic brake force distribution. The interior, as well, didn't look or feel like it was made from recycled Tonka toys. <br /><br />Mind you, we're not saying the FC would set the sales charts on fire in the U.S., but it could be competitive with the bottom dwellers in its class. For a Chinese automaker hoping to sell cars in the world's largest market, that's progress. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: Detroit 2008: Geely FC</strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-geely-fc/586709/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/0000geelyfc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-geely-fc/586710/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/0008geelyfc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-geely-fc/586716/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/0004geelyfc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-geely-fc/586713/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/0001geelyfc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-geely-fc/586714/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/0002geelyfc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-25231920554362436452008-04-02T18:41:00.044-07:002008-04-02T03:41:26.209-07:00Detroit Auto Show: Audi R8 V12 TDI unveiled<p><a href="http://www.autounleashed.com/detroit-auto-show-audi-r8-v12-tdi-unveiled#comments">Detroit Auto Show: Audi R8 V12 TDI unveiled</a><p><center><img src="http://www.autounleashed.com/images/audi_r8_v12_tdi_1.jpg" title="Audi R8 V12 TDI" alt="Audi R8 V12 TDI" height="233" width="450" /></center></p><br /><p><!--adsense-->As we’ve announced a few days ago (see the post here), Audi unveiled today, at Detroit, the <b>Audi R8 V12 TDI</b>, a diesel powered version of their high performance R8. Though we love it, so far, the car is just a concept and we’re not sure if Audi will decide to roll it into production. Powered by the V12 TDI with a displacement of six liters, which produces 500 hp and 1,000 Nm (737.56 lb-ft) of torque, the R8 V12 TDI sprints from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of over 186 mph (300 km/h). The engine is based on the V12 TDI race engine from the R10 race car, which produces over 650 hp from a displacement of 5.5 liters, giving it the potential for a top speed as high as 330 km/h (205.05 mph) depending on the gear ratios.</p><br /><p><i>The <b>Audi R8 V12 TDI</b> concept with matt ‘Grace Silver’ bodywork looks even wider and more resolute than the core model. It shows its potential through its muscular proportions, accentuated wheel arches and even larger air apertures. The rhombus-pattern cover on the air inlets and outlets is the hallmark of Audi’s sporty top models and a familiar feature of the current RS generation.</i></p><br /><p>Check out more photos and read the huge press release, after the jump.<br /><br /> <a href="http://www.autounleashed.com/detroit-auto-show-audi-r8-v12-tdi-unveiled" class="more-link">(more…)</a></p><br /><br /><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://www.autounleashed.com">Auto Unleashed</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-14331233605770055832008-04-02T18:41:00.043-07:002008-04-02T03:41:25.319-07:00Detroit Auto Show: Amphibious Tang Hua Detroit Fish [Detroit Auto Show]<p><a href="http://feeds.gawker.com/~r/jalopnik/full/~3/217173672/detroit-auto-show-amphibious-tang-hua-detroit-fish">Detroit Auto Show: Amphibious Tang Hua Detroit Fish [Detroit Auto Show]</a><p><img align="left" hspace="4" vspace="2" alt="Tang%20hua%20Detroit%20Fish%201.JPG" src="http://jalopnik.com/assets/resources/2008/01/Tang%20hua%20Detroit%20Fish%201.JPG" width="474" height="349" />We practiced our love with the <a href="http://jalopnik.com/344773/detroit-auto-show-tang-hua-book-of-songs-has-a-funny-shape">Tang Hua Book of Songs</a> earlier, and now for the less phallic, more idiosyncratic Tang Hua Detroit Fish. With over 33 million F Series trucks sold since 1943, the new F-150 was a big challenge for Ford, so more than 1,000 Ford engineers, designers, researchers and others worked together to develop the new <b>2009 Ford F-150</b>.</p><br /><p><i>‘Before we started working on the new truck, we continued the conversation with people who use these trucks every day for work and play,’</i> said Matt O’Leary, chief engineer of the 2009 F-150. <i>‘We went to their ranches, their job sites and their homes, making sure we crafted features that would improve their ownership experiences and, really, their lives’</i>. And it seems they did that, because the new F-150 comes in 35 different configurations and customers will be able to choose from the no-fuss XL workhorse, to the sporty STX and off-road capable FX4, to the mid-range XLT. For those looking for tough luxury, Ford offers the high-end Lariat and King Ranch F-150 models.</p><br /><p>Under the hood, the new F-150 will be offered with three V8 engine choices, mated to either a 4-speed or a new fuel-efficient 6-speed automatic transmission. One is the standard model that will go on sale toward the end of the this year with a nickel metal hydride battery pack. The second uses a lithium ion pack and has the ability to be plugged in for 4-5 hours giving it a ten mile electric range. Let me here correct an error I made in my original post on the regular two-mode Vue. Contrary to what I had heard earlier, the fuel economy improvement is actually 50 percent in combined driving rather in the city cycle. According to GM Powertrain VP Tom Stephens, GM is actually hoping to get even more improvement before production launch later this year. The company also wants to get the PHEV Vue to market by late next year, making it the first commercially available plug-in hybrid.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: Detroit 2008: Saturn Vue Two-Modes</strong></p><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/detroit-2008-saturn-vue-two-modes-1/583587/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/01/vue-two-mode-1280-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/detroit-2008-saturn-vue-two-modes-1/583576/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/01/vue-two-mode-1280-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/detroit-2008-saturn-vue-two-modes-1/583575/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/01/vue-two-mode-1280-11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/detroit-2008-saturn-vue-two-modes-1/583580/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/01/vue-two-mode-1280-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/detroit-2008-saturn-vue-two-modes-1/583590/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/01/vue-two-mode-1280-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br /><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com">AutoblogGreen</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-7512812028986769542008-04-02T18:41:00.039-07:002008-04-02T03:41:21.155-07:00Detroit 2008: Mitsubishi brings the retro to D-town<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/15/detroit-2008-mitsubishi-brings-the-retro-to-d-town/#comments">Detroit 2008: Mitsubishi brings the retro to D-town</a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mitsubishi-ralliart-in-detroit/586721/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/starion_group_a_02_450-op.jpg" alt="" /></a><br /><em>Click the image above for a gallery of high-res shots.</em><br /><br />During Mitsubishi's press conference on Sunday, it paid particular attention to the marque's motorsport heritage with a video montage/quiz game on how Ralliart has fared in the last quarter century of rallying and road racing. That's no surprise, considering the introduction of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/13/detroit-2008-2009-mitsubishi-lancer-ralliart-were-sold/">Lancer Ralliart</a>, but Mitsu also brought a few of the vehicles that shaped its racing legacy and proudly displayed them on the show floor.<br /><br />The first vehicle that caught our eye was the Group A Starion Turbo (above) that barely got a wash before being put away wet after its last race in 1988. The Starion racked up over a dozen wins in Japan and throughout the world during its four-year campaign, but beyond its on-track successes, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mitsubishi-ralliart-in-detroit/586719/">weights still taped onto the wheels</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mitsubishi-ralliart-in-detroit/586715/">rear-mounted radiator</a> had us geeking out between photos.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mitsubishi-ralliart-in-detroit/586698/"><img width="205" vspace="4" hspace="4" height="137" border="1" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/lancer_rally_01_250.jpg" alt="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mitsubishi-ralliart-in-detroit/586748/"><img width="205" vspace="4" hspace="4" height="137" border="1" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/73_mitsu_01_250-op.jpg" alt="" /></a><br /><br />The 1981 rally-prepped Lancer (2nd generation, above left) was particularly impressive, but the Galant GTO R73-X (above right) was what floored us. We saw the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/11/frankfurt-2007-mini-clubman-debuts-in-a-club-man/">European Mini Cooper Clubman</a> in Frankfurt in both base Cooper and the sportier 'S' model, but here are some live shots of the American offering. Nothing surprising: same five doors, same cute styling. The Clubman will go on sale beginning February 16th, 2008 in both Cooper Clubman and Cooper S Clubman models. Base price for the MINI Cooper Clubman will be just $20,600, with the MINI Cooper S Clubman starting at $24,100.<br /><br />The slightly stretched MINI with its right-hand suicide door and funky barn-door cargo ports out back has been getting pretty good reviews. We'll try to get our hands on one for the garage to confirm those feelings ourselves. While the concept of a 'big' MINI is sacrilege to some, we tend to like the idea of actually being able to use that back seat and still have a little room for some baggage as well. Our one gripe? The naming. MINI Cooper Clubman and MINI Cooper S Clubman are a mouthful. We'll stick with the more natural sounding MINI Clubman and MINI Clubman S in casual conversation. You can read the MINI's press release after the jump, and don't forget to check out the gallery by clicking above or below.<br /><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: 2008 Detroit: US MINI Cooper Clubman</strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-detroit-us-mini-cooper-clubman/582866/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/miniclubman---1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-detroit-us-mini-cooper-clubman/582871/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/miniclubman---10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-detroit-us-mini-cooper-clubman/582874/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/miniclubman---11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-detroit-us-mini-cooper-clubman/582880/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/miniclubman---12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-detroit-us-mini-cooper-clubman/582869/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/miniclubman---13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: 2008 MINI Clubman</strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-mini-clubman/327745/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/clubman001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-mini-clubman/328331/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/clubman002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-mini-clubman/327743/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/clubman003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-mini-clubman/328329/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/clubman004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-mini-clubman/328326/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/clubman005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/14/detroit-2008-mini-cooper-s-clubman-makes-it-stateside/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Detroit 2008: MINI Cooper S Clubman makes it Stateside</em></a></p><br /><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-80663208852311073082008-04-02T18:41:00.037-07:002008-04-02T03:41:19.564-07:00Detroit Auto Show: Maserati Quattroporte “Collezione Cento”<p><a href="http://www.autounleashed.com/detroit-auto-show-maserati-quattroporte-collezione-cento#comments">Detroit Auto Show: Maserati Quattroporte “Collezione Cento”</a><p><center><img src="http://www.autounleashed.com/images/maserati_quattroporte_100.jpg" title="Maserati Quattroporte Collezione Cento" alt="Maserati Quattroporte Collezione Cento" height="229" width="450" /></center></p><br /><p><!--adsense-->Usually ‘exclusive’ and ‘Maserati’ mean the same thing, but that’s not enough for Maserati, because at Detroit, they’ve presented the <b>Maserati Quattroporte ‘Collezione Cento’</b>, a 100 units limited edition. Here is a part of the press release:</p><br /><p><i>To kick start 2008, Maserati has brought its flagship saloon in a super-deluxe incarnation to Detroit — the Quattroporte ‘Collezione Cento’ — of which just 100 will be produced: comfort, technology, and luxury all rolled into one; dressed for the occasion in a sophisticated Italian outfit — in a brand-new ivory colour, with a contrasting coach line on the sides that enhances the sinuous lines of the Quattroporte. 20’ wheels are fitted with polished rims, adding the perfect touch of sophistication and elegance. The chromed honeycomb front and side grilles also bring out the executive nature of this flagship saloon.</p><br /><p>The interior is no less spectacular. Everything exudes luxury, from the Poltrona Frau ‘Cuoio’ coloured leather seats with diamond-shaped stitching and matching buttons in the centre, to the polished Wengé wood inserts on the steering wheel, centre console and small object compartment. The mother of pearl inlays are a true delight, adding an unusual gleam to the name of the vehicle and the trident on the gear knob. Cuoio coloured leather is also used for the superior-weight overmats, enhanced by edges in contrasting Beige. The interior’s concept was exclusively presented to Maserati customers at last year’s Frankfurt Motorshow; the ‘Collezione Cento’ has been developed on the basis of their feedback and comments.</i><br /><br /> <a href="http://www.autounleashed.com/detroit-auto-show-maserati-quattroporte-collezione-cento" class="more-link">(more…)</a></p><br /><br /><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://www.autounleashed.com">Auto Unleashed</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-26634172555881985522008-04-02T18:41:00.036-07:002008-04-02T03:41:18.989-07:00Detroit Auto Show: Tang Hua Book of Songs Has a Funny Shape [Detroit Auto Show]<p><a href="http://feeds.gawker.com/~r/jalopnik/full/~3/217113258/detroit-auto-show-tang-hua-book-of-songs-has-a-funny-shape">Detroit Auto Show: Tang Hua Book of Songs Has a Funny Shape [Detroit Auto Show]</a><p><img align="left" hspace="4" vspace="2" alt="Tang%20Hua%20Book%20Of%20Songs.JPG" src="http://jalopnik.com/assets/resources/2008/01/Tang%20Hua%20Book%20Of%20Songs.JPG" width="474" height="355" />Tang Hua is one of those Chinese companies in the basement that is unabashedly pitching its bizarre wares at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. The terrible trio of yellow fiberglass and awesome lined up in their stand made us want to love the upstart manufacturer - in that way. Travis couldn't restrain himself. We're not going to say anything <em>unseemly</em>, but if you look at the profile of the 'Book of Songs' upside down, it may look a little, um, suggestive. This capacious vehicle features a couple key features to accommodate any growing brood. My favorite option is the 'Time Out' button located on the steering wheel. It will terminate the broadcast of all types of media and entertainment being consumed in the backseat. Kids acting up? Turn that Hannah Montana diva off for good! Parents can monitor their offspring (as well as anything else they might be transporting) with a nanny cam integrated into the roof above the center console. No longer will Dad have to look over his shoulder while simultaneously parallel parking and frantically BlackBerrying. The center console microwave is perplexing. My apartment smells for days after simply popping popcorn--I can't imagine what a few dozen chicken nuggets would do to 'that new car smell.' Oh well, at least the center row of seats can spin to face each other and the binnacle contains motion controls.<br /><br /><br /><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://jalopnik.com">Jalopnik</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-2424743929006181572008-04-02T18:41:00.034-07:002008-04-02T03:41:16.669-07:00Detroit Auto Show: Volkswagen Passat CC four door coupe unveiled<p><a href="http://www.autounleashed.com/detroit-auto-show-volkswagen-passat-cc-four-door-coupe-unveiled#comments">Detroit Auto Show: Volkswagen Passat CC four door coupe unveiled</a><p><center><img src="http://www.autounleashed.com/images/volkswagen_passat_cc.jpg" title="Volkswan Passat CC" alt="Volkswan Passat CC" height="245" width="450" /></center></p><br /><p><!--adsense-->Honestly, I never believed I will like this car and I was expecting this car to see what Volkswagen will come up with. And my expectations were confirmed: I don’t like it at all. First of all, I don’t get it, why would Volkswagen try to come up with something similar to the Mercedes Benz CLS? And second…it’s ugly. I mean, the front is pretty cool, but what’s with that rear?</p><br /><p>Anyways, for those of you which like it, you should know that the car will be available with several engines, starting with a 160 hp 1.8-litre TSI unit, while the top of the line is a 3.6-litre V6 FSI model producing 300 hp. A premiere is that the Passat CC will feature Volkswagen’s new lane hold assist system (if the vehicle appears to be inadvertently leave the lane, the assistance system provides corrective steer control).</p><br /><p><i>‘The core markets are North America, Western Europe and Japan. Nissan has admitted that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/24/another-report-nissan-bringing-over-cube-in-2008/">rumors</a> are true, the Cube will finally be offered in the United States market and it won't be the spawn of a new company brand either. The question is why did Nissan take so long to make the move since the Cube was first released in Japan ten years ago? Toyota proved the American consumer's demand for cuboid shaped vehicles with the launch of Scion and the xB back in 2004, yet Nissan continued to hold out. Most likely the push over the edge came from the recently revised CAFE standards as the Cube is powered by a fuel sipping 1.5-liter I-4 engine. It is the perfect compliment to the powerful new GT-R.<br /><br /><br /><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-14867942894543154272008-04-02T18:41:00.032-07:002008-04-02T03:41:13.965-07:00Elettrica already on sale in the UK, in lead-acid or li-ion<p><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/01/15/elettrica-already-on-sale-in-the-uk-in-lead-acid-or-li-ion/#comments">Elettrica already on sale in the UK, in lead-acid or li-ion</a><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" align="top" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/01/electtrica.jpg" alt="" /><br />Smartplanet has published some information about the Elettrica: Future Vehicles has <a href="http://www.smartplanet.com/news/transport/10000516/new-electtrica-electric-car-zips-into-london.htm">already put it on sale</a>. The Elettrica is an all-electric car which can be purchased with either a set of lead-acid batteries (at £9,950) or a lithium pack (at £12,750). This is 'just a little more' expensive than the G-Wiz, which had <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/01/06/goinggreen-has-a-post-xmas-sale-on-the-g-wiz/">a recent offer</a> with prices starting at £2,999. I made a <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/06/12/mini-test-drive-the-riva-ev/">small test drive</a> of the latter during the Barcelona Auto Show and I was unimpressed when I compared it to a regular car, but admit it's far superior than any 49cc quadracycle.<br /><br />Nevertheless, the Elettrica has a very decent performance: a 70-mile range and a maximum speed of 45 mph. The company also sells converted classics so you can run on electrons in a more classy way. You can get an converted Mini Classic with prices starting on £17,500. If I win the lottery, I'll get one.<br /><br /><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com">AutoblogGreen</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-26928160803152338692008-04-02T18:41:00.031-07:002008-04-02T03:41:12.750-07:00Detroit: Cadillac Unveils Picture-Perfect CTS Coupe<p><a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/wiredautopia/~3/217350180/detroit-cadilla.html">Detroit: Cadillac Unveils Picture-Perfect CTS Coupe</a><br /><div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><a href="http://blog.wired.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/2008/01/15/x08cc_ca021.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href, '_blank', 'width=800,height=507,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false"><img alt="X08cc_ca021" title="X08cc_ca021" src="http://blog.wired.com/cars/images/2008/01/15/x08cc_ca021.jpg" width="450" height="285" border="0" style="float: left; margin: 0px 5px 5px 0px;" /></a><br /><br />Okay, enough <a href="http://www.gm.com/">GM</a>-bashing. When a company can roll out a car as dazzling as the <b>Cadillac CTS Coupe</b>, it's doing pretty well in my book. They're calling it a concept, but it looks about as showroom-ready as the stunning CTS-V sedan unveiled alongside it. The B-pillarless Coupe is designed around Cadillac's excellent 304-horsepower, 3.6-liter direct-injection V-6, paired to a six-speed manual gearbox, but it will also handily accommodate GM's the forthcoming 250-horsepower, 2.9-liter turbodiesel engine. Perhaps looking smaller in photographs than it really is (thanks to huge 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels), the Coupe rides on the same wheelbase as the CTS sedan, but it's two inches shorter bumper-to-bumper and roof-to-ground. The two-plus-two interior, with seats by Recaro, features black and yellow hide with contrasting stitching and suede-like microfiber inserts. It's as beautifully detailed as most anything I've seen recently from a European automaker. We're all pleased to see GM get on the hybrid/diesel/electric bandwagon. There was no shortage of green thinking on the company's show stands, a good deal of it headed to the production line. But in the end, saving fuel is one thing, saving the company is another. Cars like the CTS Coupe are what earned GM its 'Standard of the World' slogan way back when, and it'll be cars like this that earn it back. <br /><br /><p><p><i>More photos after the break, courtesy of <a href="http://www.gm.com/">General Motors</a>.</i><a href="http://blog.wired.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/2008/01/15/x08cc_ca015.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href, '_blank', 'width=800,height=574,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false"><img alt="X08cc_ca015" title="X08cc_ca015" src="http://blog.wired.com/cars/images/2008/01/15/x08cc_ca015.jpg" width="200" height="143" border="0" style="float: left; margin: 0px 5px 5px 0px;" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://blog.wired.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/2008/01/15/x08cc_ca018.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href, '_blank', 'width=800,height=574,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false"><img alt="X08cc_ca018" title="X08cc_ca018" src="http://blog.wired.com/cars/images/2008/01/15/x08cc_ca018.jpg" width="200" height="143" border="0" style="float: left; margin: 0px 5px 5px 0px;" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://blog.wired.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/2008/01/15/x08cc_ca020.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href, '_blank', 'width=800,height=574,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false"><img alt="X08cc_ca020" title="X08cc_ca020" src="http://blog.wired.com/cars/images/2008/01/15/x08cc_ca020.jpg" width="200" height="143" border="0" style="float: left; margin: 0px 5px 5px 0px;" /></a><br clear=left><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://blog.wired.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/2008/01/15/x08cc_ca016_5.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href, '_blank', 'width=800,height=519,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false"><img alt="X08cc_ca016_5" title="X08cc_ca016_5" src="http://blog.wired.com/cars/images/2008/01/15/x08cc_ca016_5.jpg" width="200" height="129" border="0" style="float: left; margin: 0px 5px 5px 0px;" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://blog.wired.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/2008/01/15/x08cc_ca019_2.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href, '_blank', 'width=800,height=504,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false"><img alt="X08cc_ca019_2" title="X08cc_ca019_2" src="http://blog.wired.com/cars/images/2008/01/15/x08cc_ca019_2.jpg" width="200" height="126" border="0" style="float: left; margin: 0px 5px 5px 0px;" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://blog.wired.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/2008/01/15/x08cc_ca024.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href, '_blank', 'width=800,height=532,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false"><img alt="X08cc_ca024" title="X08cc_ca024" src="http://blog.wired.com/cars/images/2008/01/15/x08cc_ca024.jpg" width="200" height="133" border="0" style="float: left; margin: 0px 5px 5px 0px;" /></a></div><br /><br /><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://blog.wired.com/cars/">Autopia</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-66273371345873442412008-04-02T18:41:00.030-07:002008-04-02T03:41:11.685-07:00Detroit Auto Show: XM Infotainment Infiniti QX56 System Does It All [Detroit Auto Show]<p><a href="http://feeds.gawker.com/~r/jalopnik/full/~3/217099122/detroit-auto-show-xm-infotainment-infiniti-qx56-system-does-it-all">Detroit Auto Show: XM Infotainment Infiniti QX56 System Does It All [Detroit Auto Show]</a><p><img align="left" hspace="4" vspace="2" alt="xminfotainmenttop.jpg" src="http://jalopnik.com/assets/resources/2008/01/xminfotainmenttop.jpg" width="500" height="332" /><br /><br />The <a href="http://jalopnik.com/cars/detroit-auto-show/">Detroit Auto Show</a> may be chock full of cars and gears and engines, but there is still some love for the techno-fiends out there. XM's completely customized Infiniti QX56 'Infotainment Vehicle' includes a wide array of features including the standard touchscreen interface, a programming guide, XM Satellite Radio (obviously), XM NavTraffic, NavInfo, NavWeather, voice commands <a href="http://jalopnik.com/cars/gadgets/xm-working-on-parking-information-system-136084.php">Parking Link</a> and more.<br /><br /><script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8">galleryPost('xminfotainmentqx56', 6, 'XM Infotainment Infiniti QX56');</script></p><br /><br /><p>The back of the QX56 contains the brains of this demo vehicle. Understand that the Infotainment Vehicle is completely customized and built for demonstration of all of XM's next generation goods and won't be hitting an Infiniti dealership in this current state. Despite the mess of electronics and other goods, there is actually four different, independent computers powering everything inside the QX56. This ultimately could allow every screen inside of the vehicle to operate independently. </p><br /><br /><p>Easily, the most impressive feature is the XM NavWeather, NavInfo and NavTraffic. The NavWeather provides live weather updates on the fly. It divides up the map into a grid. Each square on the grid is approximately 4.3 square miles and provides its own independent weather information. Pair this up with Infiniti's navigation to provide accurate and completely customized driving forecasts.</p><br /><br /><p>NavTraffic provides up to the minute traffic information with the navigation. As with other traffic analyzers, roads are color-coded based based on pace of traffic; specific incidents are highlighted and can be opened to provide details. The <a href="http://jalopnik.com/344159/detroit-auto-show-hyundai-reveals-genesis-sedan-disrupts-industry">Hyundai Genesis</a> is one of the vehicles being shown off at the <a href="http://www.jalopnik.com/cars/detroit-auto-show/">Detroit Auto Show</a> and the first Hyundai that will be including NavTraffic. Many vehicles from Acura, Cadillac, Ferrari, Lexus, Infiniti, Nissan and Toyota also include XM NavTraffic.</p><br /><br /><p>NavInfo is a robust suite of information about everything from flight times and statuses, gas prices and more. It is also integrated into the navigation seamlessly. </p><br /><br /><p>XM's Parking Link is still a ways away from reality, but the idea is good. On the map, parking garages are highlighted and information is given based on available spaces. It can also display prices. XM also said that a street-level version of Parking Link is far off, but nonetheless under discussion.</p><br /><br /><p>Sports scores, stock prices and standard XM radio with a programming guide are also parts of the Infotainment Vehicle and the future technology available from XM. </p><br /><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://jalopnik.com">Jalopnik</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-82301315416173558862008-04-02T18:41:00.029-07:002008-04-02T03:41:07.334-07:00Detroit Auto Show: Volvo R-Design XC90 Adds Sporty Style Without Burden of Sporty Performance [Detroit Auto Show]<p><a href="http://feeds.gawker.com/~r/jalopnik/full/~3/217085914/detroit-auto-show-volvo-r+design-xc90-adds-sporty-style-without-burden-of-sporty-performance">Detroit Auto Show: Volvo R-Design XC90 Adds Sporty Style Without Burden of Sporty Performance [Detroit Auto Show]</a><p><img align="left" hspace="4" vspace="2" alt="volvordesigntop.jpg" src="http://jalopnik.com/assets/resources/2008/01/volvordesigntop.jpg" width="477" height="308" />Do you drive a Volvo C30, S40, V50 or XC90 and are worried your neighbors don't quite understand you purchased an S40 to show off your commitment to seat-of-your-pants performance? Volvo has the answer in the form of the <a href="http://jalopnik.com/cars/swede-home-alcantara/r-gang-volvo-announces-new-upgrade-package-273696.php">R-Design line</a>. Vehicles modified with the package get sportier wheels, satin matte-finish grilles, color coordinated side moldings and other custom touches. What they don't get is more power of any kind, revised suspensions or great aerodynamics. When Volvo released photos earlier they didn't show us the XC90, so our intrepid photographers hunted one down for your viewing pleasure. <br /><br /><br /><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://jalopnik.com">Jalopnik</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-86104970632139572202008-04-02T18:41:00.028-07:002008-04-02T03:41:06.302-07:00Ghosn takes his Qs from dealers on new Infiniti flagship<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/15/ghosn-takes-his-qs-from-dealers-on-new-infiniti-flagship/#comments">Ghosn takes his Qs from dealers on new Infiniti flagship</a><p> <a href="http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080114/ANA02/696794407/1078/rss02&rssfeed=rss02"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/infiniti_q45_web.jpg" /></a></p><br /><p>Before unveiling the simply fantastic new GT-R in Los Angeles, Nissan-Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn did not appear to be a big fan of high-end halo cars. Renault's line-up is limited primarily to compact hatchbacks and sedans, while the Infiniti Q45 was discontinued two years ago without a replacement. But with the GT-R now exceeding expectations, and Renault looking at new flagship models, a new Q flagship is back on the table.</p><br /><p>Although Infiniti was until now just for the North American market, like its rivals Lexus and Acura, the brand is being expanded into other emerging luxury markets like China, Korea and Russia. Infiniti dealers from those four markets recently met with Ghosn at Nissan's R&D center in Atsugi, Japan, where they were shown preliminary alternatives for a new Q.</p><br /><p>Trouble is, the various dealers from different markets all wanted different things. According to reports, Ghosn isn't convinced a new flagship luxury sedan for Infiniti is the way to go, but he's giving his managers the opportunity to convince him otherwise. If they can present a compelling business case, a new Q could be around the corner.</p><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-43811285635716066332008-04-02T18:41:00.027-07:002008-04-02T03:41:05.190-07:00Spy Shot: Aston Martin Rapide<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/15/spy-shot-aston-martin-rapide/#comments">Spy Shot: Aston Martin Rapide</a><p><a href="http://thehollywoodextra.blogspot.com/2008/01/aston-martin-rapide.html"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/aston-rapide-spy1.jpg" /></a></p><br /><p>With its Le Mans racing program soon to be bolstered by <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/04/aston-martin-racing-releases-sketch-of-vantage-gt2/">GT2</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/10/aston-martin-announces-expansion-into-lmp1-class/">LMP1</a> entries, and with sales of its ever-so-desirable GTs ever increasing, Aston Martin is preparing to add the four-door <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/01/09/world-premiere-aston-martin-rapide-concept/">Rapide</a> to its production line-up. And if this spy shot is any indication, things seem to be moving along nicely.</p><br /><p>Aston was anticipated to decide by year's end where the Rapide would be built. Although the company just moved to a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/11/aston-martin-building-new-design-center/">new facility in Gaydon</a>, the automaker was reportedly in discussions with a number of smaller contractors - including Pininfarina, Karmann, Magna-Steyr and Valmet - over potentially outsourcing the Rapide's manufacturing. As we already know, these private coachbuilders are all in dire need of the contract.</p><br /><p>Confirmation that Aston would build the Rapide was one of the first things its new owners did after acquiring the company from Ford, and we're looking forward to seeing the production version in the flesh after seeing this spy shot.</p><br /><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3887713426780215376.post-27032090078008459572008-04-02T18:41:00.026-07:002008-04-02T03:41:04.272-07:00New American Ford Verve Sedan Concept unveiled!<p><a href="http://paultan.org/archives/2008/01/15/new-american-ford-verve-sedan-concept-unveiled/#comments">New American Ford Verve Sedan Concept unveiled!</a><p> <img src="http://images.paultan.org/images/USDM_Ford_Verve_Sedan_Concept_1.jpg" alt="Ford Verve Sedan" /></p><br /><p>Ford’s new Ford Verve Sedan Concept has been updated in its Detroit 2008 incarnation, and now features a new front fascia with a larger upper grille and new ‘more conservative’ taillamps, if such a term could ever be used for a concept vehicle.</p><br /><p>Ford confirms that North America will receive a new series of small cars as even the gas-guzzling American market is slowly moving towards small and fuel efficient cars now, rather than the likes of Lincoln Navigators. The 2008 Autosport International Show at the NEC in Birmingham will be its first public appearance for the MMI Avocet.</p><br /><p>The MMI Avocet has a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of under 5.0 seconds. Re-tuned by Roush to develop 150 hp, the MMI Avocet is built around Ford’s 2-liter Duratec engine. With a special order, the MMI Avocet can be tuned to develop 225 hp and equipped with the same engine.</p><br /><p><img src="http://www.imagecows.com/uploads/78db-MMI-Avocet-Sport-Car.jpg" alt="MMI Avocet Sport Car" title="MMI Avocet Sport Car" /></p><br /><p><u>Press Release</u><br /><br /><strong>MMI’s new Avocet … British, good looks and affordable performance</strong></p><br /><p>A new British-built sportscar, which combines a stylish, ultra-lightweight two-seater body with exceptional chassis dynamics and awesome performance is unveiled at the 2008 Autosport International Show at the NEC in Birmingham. MM Industries, which now owns the former Strathcarron sportscar business, is presenting its production MMI Avocet two-seater during the show’s two trade days, prior to a public launch later in the year.</p><br /><p>The MMI Avocet is displayed by Surface Transforms (Stand E304) - whose latest technology carbon ceramic brake system is fitted to the car. The system, which will be available as an extra cost option, reduces overall weight by 2.5 kilograms per corner, with a resultant improvement in handling and braking performance.</p><br /><p>The car will be built in South Essex by the specialist automotive engineering and motorsport team which recently acquired the business of Roush Technologies in the UK. The vehicle will use selected Ford standard and performance parts, which will give the car a mature component inventory which is fully tested and proven in the market.</p><br /><p>MMI has placed an order for a limited initial production run of the car, which now features a significantly restyled doorless moulded bodyshell and incorporates some of the latest lightweight composite materials. The standard car features a steeply inclined windscreen, although a very attractive low-line wrap-around aero-screened ‘Spyder’ version is also planned.</p><br /><p>The standard powertrain incorporates a Ford 2-litre Duratec engine, recalibrated by Roush to suit the installation – and develop 150bhp. An uprated 225bhp version, developed by Roush’s Mountune performance division, will be available as a special order option. An all-up weight of around 700 kilograms will, in power to weight terms, position the MMI Avocet alongside the quickest – and, with a 0-60 time under 5 seconds, is expected to make the car extremely competitive.</p><br /><p>Current plans include building around 50 cars in the first year – with both left and right-hand drive versions available. The car will be sold as a fully equipped, fully homologated road-going sports-car. MMI is keen to differentiate the<br /><br />MMI Avocet from the cluster of kit and track-day cars which have visited the market over recent years. A high degree of ‘customization’ is to be offered – and extras for the car include a removable roof and exclusive detachable, fashion-styled travel luggage, which will clip into special cradles behind the cockpit.</p><br /><p>‘The original ambition to develop and produce a small, lightweight British sports-car at an affordable price, has not changed. The MMI Avocet is an attractive looking car which uses core Ford componentry – all widely available off the shelf. As a result, the car possesses mature product handling, excellent drive-ability – and awesome performance. We believe that the MMI Avocet will satisfy the gap in the market which has remained unoccupied for far too long – for an affordable performance sportscar with proven volume market reliability’, says MMI Founder and Managing Director, Martin Miles.</p><br /><p>‘The new production MMI Avocet retains the original Reynard designed chassis, subsequently further developed by Ray Mallock and Chapman – and it has exceptional structural rigidity. The redesigned one-piece body utilizes composite materials to provide remarkable strength combined with low weight. Add to that Roush’s experience of powertrain engineering, packaging and production – and we can be totally confident that this new car will fit the defined niche in the market for which our research has demonstrated that there is a significant demand’, says Miles.</p><br /><p><img src="http://www.imagecows.com/uploads/1d54-MMI-Avocet-Car.jpg" alt="MMI Avocet Car" title="MMI Avocet Car" /></p><br /><br /><br /><p>(Via <a href="http://www.yosax.com">WWW.YOSAX.COM</a>.)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
